HOW TO WRITE A CV AND SECURE FOR YOURSELF YOUR DREAM JOB.
A CV is not a CV if it can not win you a job. A winning CV is one that stands out from the crowd. A lot of job seekers do not know that one of the secrets of securing a good job is perfecting the art of writing a job-winning CV. A job-winning CV is an eye-catching CV. But before I let you know what an eye-catching CV should look like, it will be right to define what a CV actually is.

But before I let you know what an eye-catching CV should look like, it will be right to define what a CV actually is.
WHAT IS A CV ?
According to Advanced learners Dictionary of contemporary English; A CV is a record of your education and employment that you send when you are applying for a job. But a more comprehensive meaning of a CV mean life history.
However, for clearity sake I think a more preside definition of a CV would not be a bad idea.
A CV is biographic representation of your; Name, sex, Address, phone number, E-mail address, Educational background, work experience, research work, affiliation, honours and hobbies.
TYPES OF CVs.
There are two (2) types of CVs; they are:
- Chronological CV
- Résumé
This type of CV is the more traditional structure of CV. This type is the regular one and you are hitherto accustomed to it. Chronological CV mainly highlights your educational background and de- emphasizes on your skills and experience. But it contain more details than the résumé. Nevertheless, the chronological CV is what is more acceptable in this country (Nigeria) for job application.
RÉSUMÉ
A résumé is a functional or skill- based CV, and it is usually called a targeted CV, because if lay emphasis more of the skills and experience of the applicant than it does of the applicants educational background. A résumé is more acceptable outside the shores of Africa especially in America and Europe.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CV AND A RÉSUMÉ
For the sake of learning, I think I will be expedient to enumerate the difference between a CV and a RÉSUMÉ.
- Résumé is usually very brief.
- Résumé contain job objectives statement.
- Résumé deemphasizes your education.
- Résumé emphasis on your skills and experiences.
- A résumé is incomplete but more precise and persuasive.
- References is not allowed in résumé, but could be included in CVs.
- A résumé must not exceed one A4 sheet.
Now that you understand the difference between a CV and a Résumé, I Implore you to also know the purpose of a CV/Résumé. They are:
- To make you attractive.
- To make you interesting.
- To make you worth considering.
- To receive an invitation for ajob interview or test as the case may be.
Reasons why you present an eye-catching CV.
You need a good job, don't you? Then you should be able to an eye-catching CV to your prospective employer or recruiter. I will gibe you some hints on how to do this, but first you need to know the seven(7) reasons why you must present an eye-catching CV. Remember, an eye-catching CV is a job-catching CV. They are:
- The recruiter would be dealing with hundreds and some times thousands of application per day.
- He will make the decision, about short- listing you by only scan-reading your CV usually 10-20 seconds.
- He is initially searching for just a few action key words in your CV/Résumé. If not seen, that means yours goose is cook.
- He is usually under immense time pressure and has a tight dead- line to meet. Time is not his friend.
- He will happily discard CV's or Résumé that are difficult to read as he tries to meet his ever- tight deadlines.
- He will not give you a second chance.
- The recruiting process is very tedious for recruiter. So if you make life easy for him, he will bring you an inch closer to your dream job.
